City gets new police chief as Sanjay Kumar takes charge

Bhopal : Feb 3, 2026

Bhopal: Newly appointed police commissioner of Bhopal, Sanjay Kumar, formally took charge on Monday, marking a change of guard in the city’s top police leadership following last week’s IPS reshuffle by the state home department.
Sanjay Kumar, who was serving as inspector general of Balaghat range, assumed charge from outgoing commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra at the police commissioner’s office on Monday morning. After taking over, Kumar held a brief interaction with senior police officers and officials of the commissionerate. Harinarayanchari Mishra was transferred to police headquarters as inspector general, State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), as part of a major administrative exercise in which 14 IPS officers were transferred and key field and headquarters postings were reworked.
Sources said the new commissioner is expected to focus on strengthening law and order, traffic management and crime control in the state capital, which saw a rise in population and urban challenges in recent years. Officials said further administrative changes within the commissionerate are likely in the coming days
